James King and the King Group present a variety of unique and unforgettable events for wine and food groups. King's principal work is in the area of wine education, procurement, and wine cellar management. He can help restaurants in the development of wine lists, overall delivery of wine service and training for the restaurant staff. Working along with the culinary team, he can pair and suggest wines that will best complement each particular food menu item.
James is the founder of the MI Wine Club, a 100+ member tasting group in Seattle, WA started in 2000 and the Cielo Wine Club, a 30+ member tasting group in Rancho Santa Fe, CA started in 2007. He gathers people with a common appreciation for discovering new wines in a wonderful social setting.
During the last ten years he has cultivated extensive relationships with wine makers in prestigious areas such as Napa Valley and Sonoma, CA, as well as, throughout the states of Oregon and Washington. He has hosted dinners featuring Bob Betz (Betz Family Winery), Doug McCrea (McCrea Cellars), Aaron Pott (St Clement and Quintessa), Abe Sholium (Luna Vineyards), Rick Small (Woodward Canyon) and Chris Upchurch (DeLille Cellars) to name a few.
He has also volunteered his expertise to assist several Non-Profit Organizations including; The American Cancer Association (Good Times for Good Times Wine Auction), Patrons of Northwest Civic, Cultural, and Charitable Organizations aka PONCHO (International Wine Auction) and the Detlef Schrempf Foundation.
James King remembers the day he tasted his first good wine as if it were yesterday. He continues his passionate pursuit today as an event & marketing consultant. He teaches others about wine and wine collecting. Those who attend his memorable events inevitably leave with valuable "real world" information and an increased appreciation for wine. James is well traveled and has visited wine regions around the country, (California, Oregon and Washington), as well as around the world including Chile, France and Italy. He can be characterized by his love for food and his passion for wine collecting, skiing, theatre and traveling.
James is a graduate of the Wharton School/University of Pennsylvania. He currently resides in San Diego, CA.
